Snøfall gives you a warning directly on the phone if the weight of the snow in the area approaches the limit of what your roof should withstand. We also give you a weight message ten days in advance so that you have the opportunity to plan when you need to remove snow from the roof.Whether the cabin or the house is located deep inside Jotunheimen, on the Sørland coast, in Narvik or in the middle of Oslo does not matter. Snowfall has snow data from all over the country which is updated several times a day. All you have to do is enter the address where the cottage or house is located, or mark the location on a map. Then you state whether the building was built before or after 1979, and we will arrange the rest! If you want to monitor the snow weight or snow depth at several cabins, or perhaps both the cabin and the house, we have support for that as well.Based on how high above sea level the house or cabin is located, combined with the load-bearing capacity requirements for new buildings in the relevant municipality at the time of construction, Snøfall calculates how many kilos of snow the roof / building must withstand per square meter. The calculations explained above give an estimated load-bearing capacity the building is designed for. We start to warn you when the weight of the snow on the ground in the area where the house or cottage is located exceeds 60% of the buildings estimated load-bearing capacity. You can always see the current weight of snow and snow depth in Snøfall.Every single day, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and several others collect data on precipitation, temperature, wind and many other factors related to the weather. Depth, age and water content in the snow are some of the things that determine the weight. The weight of snow is referred to as the water equivalent of snow, ie how much water is left by a square meter of snow when it melts. If you know how many millimeters of water a square meter of snow becomes when it melts, well then you also know how many kilos a square meter of snow weighs. This is because 1 millimeter of water per square meter is the same as 1 kg of snow. All information in Snøfall is based on daily measurements from hundreds of measuring stations throughout Norway. The forecasts for the weight of snow are based on expected precipitation for the next 10 days combined with expected temperature. The app offers a 7 day free trial.
